Before you start out on your dream house hunt,  you should have a list of things you are looking for and features you consider as dealbreakers.  This will guide you in making quick and easy considerations while not regretting your decisions eventually.  Below are some of the important features you should note and make up your mind about:

Age of the house:  It is important to consider your preference.  Are you interested in older houses or recently built houses?  Please note that old houses, as much as they have vintage styles with personality, usually need more repairs and upgrades. For houses that aren’t brand new, check out the condition of the house.

Quality of construction and building: You might need the help of a structural engineer to ascertain this. look beyond the paint and aesthetics. Don’t be dazzled by unnecessary features. Find out how durable the structure is.

Size: This includes the overall size of the property in terms of the number of rooms and bathrooms, building design, floor plan, etc.

The ideal number of bedrooms will be determined by the size of your family and the room allocation plan.  If you have plans of expanding your family in the future, you should put that into consideration as well.

The number of bathrooms can be an important factor to consider too. How each bathroom will be allocated to guests and family should be considered. Shower, bathtub, or both? Think about it.

If you love to cook and spend a lot of time in the kitchen, an open and big kitchen layout would be more appropriate.  If you hardly cook, you might be ok with a smaller kitchen layout.

Outdoor space: Many people give little or no thought to the size of the lot on which their property sits. The surrounding of your dream house on your lot is also important. Check out the parking space. Is it suitable for you?  Depending on the level of privacy, the use of the lawn and the length of the driveway might be important to you.  Are you a nature person that would want a garden? Would you want a place for parties and a house for pets?  Think about these as you go on your property hunt.

Finally on the type of house, make a list of deal-breakers, and must-haves in your desired property.  Don’t focus on minor decor details. No house is perfect. Things regarded as minor repairs usually don’t involve a lot of costs – things like paint color, landscaping hardware, and furnishings.
